Marvel Rocks it Again!
Iron Man 2 starring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and directed by John Favreau was an on-the-edge-of-your-seat blow em up, fuck 'em, and save the world fantastic event. Mickey Rourke was surprisingly impressive as the L'Enfant terrible Vanko and brought a roughness to the character that I wasn't expecting from such an eccentric actor. Robert Downey Jr. played the famous playa charmingly, to a point where I fell in love with a fictional character. Scarlett Johansen was hot, but as usual, her acting was lacking and corny to say the least. Don Cheadle portrayed the character of Rhodes way better than that of his predecessor, Terrence Howard. He brought more authority and a seriousness and discipline to the character that i believe the last movie was seriously in need of. I was disappointed by the ending relationship between Tony Stark and Pepper Potts in that Tony Stark does NOT settle down. He is the ultimate party playboy and to fiddle with that fiddles with the comic book makeup that is his character. Not only that, but a relationship with a superhero always puts that person in unnecessary danger... and we wouldn't want to see anything happen to little miss Paltrow. The last tidbit we are left with is a giant crater obviously made by Thor's hammer as a preview to whats to come. I cannot be more excited to see what Thor, Captain America and the rest of The Avengers have to offer.

Aah Push It
For a plotline that aches to be unpredictable, the movie Push is totally seen coming. Dakota Fanning is charming, yet there was nothing unusual about her, same old typecast Dakota Fanning. Chris Evans as always plays the cute dumb one. And Camilla Belle falls flat. As a comicon/G4 geek, I did appreciate the comic book-esque sci-fi look and feel of the movie. The different abilities are fun to analyze and pretend to do but we aren't ten years old anymore. Oh how i wish i could "push" my bank teller into giving me a couple thou every week, but then again thats not all that realistic, is it? Well, neither is Push. Someone explain to me why someone who can't even telekenetically roll dice, is suddenly capable and shattering a fifty foot bamboo scaffolding and why do the "screamers" have to take off their sunglasses to use their powers? Details details. I digress...if this were a star type scale I'd give it a three.
The Goods does not have The Goods
Someone I went to school with recommended I watch the movie, The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard. Now I know better than to listen to a hardcore stoner when making my movie choices. The only way to stomach the barrage of absurd jokes is to smoke a bowl, therefore diverting your full concentration. In this movie there are large array of ridiculous characters who are constantly spewing random inappropriate and overtly immature phrases. Such as, "They made me breast feed an old man." I'm all for masturbation jokes, but usually in the movies i watch, i prefer to have a storyline as well. Maybe its the woman in me, maybe its the intellectual. The entire movie was one punchline after other in an endless parade of over the top characters. In this situation, less is more. Nice try Will Ferrell, but i suggest dialing it down a bit. This movie does however give me hope: If a piece of shit like this was made, maybe someone out there will make my script into cinema magic!
The Hurts Too Much Locker
While everyone is fawning over the profoundness of The Hurt Locker I'd just like to point out that there was not one moment of happiness in the entire movie. Even the scene where the main character, Will James (and we wont even go into the absurdity of the double first name) plays with his infant son is reminiscent of flushing down your first goldfish, Goldie. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for trying to sympathize with our troops and what they are doing over there is hard and trying, but do we really need to be bombarded with the hellishness? I mean these are enlisted men, they understand what they're getting themselves into. All in all, The Hurt Locker was a good profound movie with lots of wisdom and blah blah blah, but i would've liked to have a little pick-up in between the moments of extreme sadness. I wanted a little ray of fucking sunshine in the storm of war.
